Our class was fortunate enough to receive a Now! Board through Donors Choose!  I will be using Classroom Dojo to communicate school behavior. Please review your student's behavior with him or her on a daily basis.  While I understand that many behaviors are disability related, hitting, biting, and kicking are never okay (see Discipline).

The morning school bell rings at 8:20. If you arrive after 8:25 you will need to check in with the front office

If you would like to send birthday goodies with your child on his or her birthday, please feel free to do so. We cannot serve anything containing peanuts or peanut products.

Eating breakfast is crucial to your child's ability to attend in the classroom.  Breakfast is available in the cafeteria every day at 7:45.

C
Parent and teacher conferences are held in the Fall and Spring (optional). If you would like to schedule a conference at another time, please let me know.

Communication is extremely important to me.  Feel free to contact me whenever you have a question, comment, or concern.  You can contact me by phone 624.3311 x. 224 or email hconn@rocklin.k12.ca.us.

We work hard to create a classroom community that is positive and safe for all.  We work closely with parents and students to develop appropriate strategies for controlling behaviors.  Discipline for unacceptable behaviors will include the following:  Classroom Dojo data, reflection time-out, loss of privilege, citation, phone call home, or a meeting with the principal, Mrs. Makis.
Dismissal for Kindergarten students is 12:25 p.m.  Dismissal for 1st grade students is 1:55 p.m.  Dismissal for 2nd and 3rd grade students is 2:55 p.m.  Every MONDAY is early release at 1:55 p.m.

Please complete and return the emergency card promptly.  If your home or work number changes, please inform the office, the nurse, and me.

Encouragement is crucial to your child's development of self-confidence in both academic and social settings.  We will encourage your student to do his or her best and to make good choices.  Please support us by encouraging your child to do the same.

F

Information about field trips will be sent home in your child's folder.

Please help your child remember his or her folder daily.

G

Our school is very fortunate to have a garden.   I love teaching students in the garden and they love to be out there.  Throughout the year, we will grow, care for, and try many different types of vegetables and fruits.

Your 1st - 3rd grade student will have gym / P.E. on two days each week.  Please check your child's schedule.  Children are asked to wear shoes that are safe for running or vigorous play.

H

Students will have homefun on Monday through Thursday nights beginning in September.  This will include:  Read Naturally passages, a reading log, and a math page.  All assignments not completed in class due to refusal will also be sent home as homefun.  Unless otherwise noted, homefun is due the following day.

I

Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence.  Your child is capable of doing many things on his or her own and we will encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom.  Please encourage your child to bring his or her folder and backpack each day.  Establish a homefun and reading routine.

IEP meetings will be held at least once each year.  You will be contacted by me and/or the school to schedule all required IEP meetings.  You may also request an IEP meeting by contacting me directly.

J

We practice writing every day.  One way we accomplish this is through writing stories in our journals.  Encourage your child to complete his or her writing legibly every day.

K

Keep updated by reading the contents of your child's take come folder every day.  In addition, I will update our class website frequently.  You can access our class webpage on the Rocklin Elementary School website under the "Teachers" section.

L

Your child will visit the library each week.  Your child can check out a book when we visit and return it on his or her library day the following week.  If your child forgets to return the book, he or she will not be allowed to check out another book.  Please check your child's schedule to see his or her library day.

Lunch is served at 11:20 for all K-2 students and 12:00 for all 3rd grade students.

M

The math curriculum is Envision.  The Envision curriculum provides students with multiple opportunities to access the standards including:  visual supports, hands on activities, and teacher demonstrations.  For students who need additional math support, TouchMath will be used to supplement the Envision curriculum.

N

Ms. Jodi Farris is our school nurse.  Please inform her of any health concerns your child has.  Please keep your contact information updated so that she may contact you in case of an emergency.

O

Our school office number is 916.624.3311.

Our campus is also lucky to have an Outdoor Learning Center.  This project is still in its infancy; however, we will continue to develop this area throughout the year(s).  Currently we have a butterfly garden where we will release our butterflies in the Spring.  This year we will add a "Pollination Station" to study how bees help our ecosystem.  Stay tuned for more learning opportunities in the OLC....

P

If someone different is picking up your child, please let me know.  To ensure your child's safety, I am unable to release your child to someone who is not listed.

Participation in your child's education is important to him or her.  Please ask your child what they learned about at school.  Your interest helps build excitement towards learning.

Q

Questions?  Please feel free to call, email, or send me a note.

R

Report cards will be issued at the end of each trimester.

Please read with your child at least 20 minutes every night.  If your child is in 2nd or 3rd grade, he or she will participate in the Accelerated Reader program.  Daily reading practice is essential to your child's academic success.  Please make reading a priority.

S

Your student will mainstream for science and social studies.  In addition to classroom instruction, we will investigate science and social studies concepts in our class garden, Outdoor Learning Center, and through hands on projects.

Snack recess is at 10:05; however, students often request snacks at other times during the day.  I will allow students to eat snacks in the classroom if they are able to continue working on their assignments while enjoying their snack.  I will ask each family to donate a snack item at the beginning of the year.

T

Please keep me informed of any changes to your child's transportation.
