Homework
Homework reinforces what is learned at school and instills good work habits. Assignments are generally begun in class, which means students should always know the directions of their assignments when working on them at home.
Students should work on written homework for no more than 45 minutes each night, Monday through Thursday. Students will have homework on Friday nights but it will only be Math. Students should also read for 30 minutes each night.
Our class does not have homework on weekends, so that students have time to spend with family and friends. Students may feel a need to work on projects over the weekends.
If you feel that your child is spending too much or too little time on their assignments, please let me know so I can work with your child toward a solution. Please work with your child to stay on top of long-term projects. Due dates will be marked on the assignment and on the class calendar.

Reading: 30 minutes every night
Math: Math homework will be assigned but it will not be collected. We will go over it in class the following day to fill in any holes that are discovered. Please take the time to ask your child about what they are doing in math each day.
Social Studies/Science: We will have an average of 3 assignments per week to complete in class or as homework in Social Studies or Science. Many assignments will be completed on the computer through Google Docs.
Language Arts/Writing: Your child will have homework a few days a week on the novel or story that we are reading in class. It will be collected and entered into the gradebook.
Wordly Wise: in lieu of spelling this year, we will be working with a curriculum called Wordly Wise. This curriculum focuses on systematic academic vocabulary development. Wordly Wise will be completed four days a week and homework may be assigned if the work is not completed in class.
