CURRICULUM
Quizzes, test and activities designed to demonstrate mastery of a concept are the primary source for a student's grade. In this way the grade is a highly accurate representation of what the student has actually learned.
Any activity that consist of guided practice or independent practice, where students may not have complete educator support and supervision through completion, will not be weighted as a demonstration of mastery. Therefore, practices are not weighted significantly and can not influence a student's grade to indicate mastery or failure of a concept. The weight of practices in a student's grade still results in accountability for completion of all practice activities and promotes responsibility. Completion of all practice activities is considered "no risk" for the student, as they are not penalized for incorrect practice. This system of positive reinforcement allows students to freely attempt all concepts, ask questions, communicate with their peers and teacher about challenging activities, and to keep trying!
Grades are based on multiple measures. This provides every student with a way to be successful! Explicit Direct Instruction is provided for every activity that will be used to demonstrate mastery.
